Health & Safety Training
Health and Safety: Competencies for Becoming a Family or Group Family Day Care Provider(Health and Safety Training) is required by the NYS Office of Children & Family Services before a person can open a family or group family child care program. Health & Safety Training was developed by the Early Childhood Education and Training Program in collaboration with the NYS Office of Children & Family Services. This training must be presented by a certified Health & Safety Trainer. The St. Lawrence Child Care Council has a certified Health & Safety Trainer on our staff.
Health and Safety Training Overview:
- Learn to provide safe and secure play spaces for children.
- Prepare for situations such as fires and medical emergencies with proven methods that follow NYS regulations.
- Review how to complete required forms such as your Health Care Plan.
- Learn your responsibilities as a mandated reporter of child abuse.
- Provide a healthy environment by practicing infection control techniques, learning to conduct daily health checks, and keeping accurate health histories.
After completing all Health & Safety Training sessions, participants will have earned 15 training hours (and .15 Continuing Education Units).
Health & Safety Training is scheduled on a quarterly basis in St. Lawrence County unless there is enough demand and participants for additional classes.
